The emergence of the IoT will create a diverse and fragmented ecosystem. Whereas the mobile industry to date has been a reasonably defined group of operators and vendors – even if those from the web and IT world have invaded from time to time – the IoT will involve a huge variety of players including vertical market organizations such as utilities, and makers of devices from cars to ATMs to washing machines.
