It’s easy to scoff at drones, or UAVs to use their more appropriate name, but the technology behind the lightweight and sometimes autonomous aircraft is getting a lot more attention from major players. The latest of these is Qualcomm, which has launched the Snapdragon Flight development kit, which the silicon giant hopes will spur the development of consumer drones and robots. About the size of a Raspberry Pi, the Flight board centers around the Snapdragon 801 SoC, the chip found inside the Galaxy S5 and the HTC One, which features a quad-core 2.26GHz Krait CPU that should provide more than enough processing power for small to medium UAVs.
