Barely a month has gone by since MediaKind was launched as a brand, the ex-Ericsson video services business, built as much around encoding as anything else, and yet it already has a Canadian tier 2 client in Cogeco Connexion. This is likely bad news for a lot of companies, not least of which is TiVo, as although the press release assures us that TiVo boxes don’t need to be kicked out to get the new service, that puts paid to both future shipments and future TiVo service revenues – although the firm will likely continue to have a relationship with the old Rovi parts of TiVo on IPR.
