Almost half of telcos worldwide have not yet defined a business case for virtualization, according to the latest Digital Transformation Tracker from the TM Forum. Though many of them have programs to transform themselves from old-style communications providers, into fully fledged digital operators, this is being held back by the cost and complexity of transforming their network operations. The Forum surveyed 160 respondents working in 66 communication service providers (CSPs). Overall, 39% did not believe they had made the business case for network virtualization, while 61% of suppliers said the same about their CSP client base.
