The USA’s Citizens Broadband Radio Service’s (CBRS) three-tiered spectrum sharing framework sets standards for automating spectrum sharing between protected federal users, the private sector and consumers. This has now been substantially revised in the second version dubbed ‘CBRS 2.0’ just introduced, taking account of four years of experience in the field and plenty of data on outcomes for users in the three tiers. CBRS has already laid foundations for other bands in the USA and to some extent other countries over effective spectrum sharing where there is a protected incumbent, while offering the best experience possible for lower priority users.
