Our Founders

Peter was the CEO of Rethink Technology Research and helped create the company in 2002. Peter was the principal analyst on Rethink Energy, focusing on the transition from fossil fuels to renewables, taking in Wind, Solar, Energy storage and the new Hydrogen economy. He also touches on the digitalization of the grid, the effect of EVs on electricity supply and any new ideas in energy.

Peter’s coverage area takes in solar design including perovskite, multi-junction solar, crystalline silicon, as well as floating platforms, carbon-nanotube layering, all types of turbines and lithium ion batteries or other form of energy storage, green hydrogen production economics, undersea cabling, demand response utility systems and Distributed Energy Management Systems.

Peter was previously involved in technology since 1978. For 17 years at Rethink, his research was focused on video and digital networks. He has consulted with set top and home gateway manufacturers, encoder specialists, chip vendors, flash memory providers, security companies and TV UI specialists over that time.

Few have blended journalistic swagger with analyst edge like Peter White has over a glistening career. He was a rare breed and has instilled a distinctive ethos among the teams and products forged under the umbrella of Rethink Technology Research, which he co-founded 20 years ago.

A challenger to C-suite executives and technologists the world over, Peter will be remembered for his fierce interview techniques, cutthroat writing style, and unrivaled talent for crystal ball reading – building a reputation as one of the world’s most trusted sources of technology market analysis.

Many will remember Peter for his elephant’s memory, wicked humor, and as a maverick who savored his troublemaker status at press conferences – where he would take great joy in letting everyone know he was the smartest person in the room. He was also a husband, a father, and a recently proud grandfather.

Caroline Gabriel

Research Director and Co-Founder, Rethink Technology Research

Caroline Gabriel is Co-Founder of Rethink and operates as the company’s Research Director. She is expert in all forms of Wireless communication and edited our research service Wireless Watch since its inception in 2002 until she joined Analysys Mason in 2023. She led our RAN Research forecasts which focus on open RAN, NFV, small cells, macro and micro cells, AI and SON, and led consulting assignments for a wide variety of wireless businesses.

Caroline Gabriel helped create Rethink Technology Research. To do so, in 2002 she left the Dutch publishing and research conglomerate VNU, at the top of the organization, as European Editorial Director.

She has been explaining technology to people for almost 30 years and has conducted research assignments for most of the major businesses in the sector including The European Commission, Intel, Vodafone, Amdocs, the Small Cell Forum, the Wireless Broadband Alliance, Ofcom as well as start-ups like SpiderCloud, Deltenna and BLiNQ Networks.

Caroline Gabriel has also partnered with other analyst groups in joint projects including RealWireless, the Yankee Group, Maravedis and ArcChart.

The irony is that while Caroline works in a subject very much of the future, she studied History at Oxford University, although she always makes it clear that history has a habit of repeating itself, even within technology.

Caroline Gabriel has spoken and chaired many conferences and is a well- known and respected figure within the LTE and 5G community.
