A new season of 5G spectrum auctions, driven this time by mmWave bands, could be breaking now, as India prepares the ground and the UK confirms a date later in 2025. The potential performance and capacity of these higher bands has long been appreciated, but now compelling evidence is coming from the field of their suitability for certain use cases. There is growing conviction that these higher bands will be needed to meet growing demand for capacity, and also to meet ever tighter SLAs over bit rate and latency especially.
