In early January, our sister service Rethink Energy discussed the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s report on data center power demand, with its dramatic forecast that power consumption would grow from 4.4% of US national electricity demand in 2023 to between 6.7%-12% by 2028. This is definitely one of the more dramatic and aggressive perspectives out there, a viewpoint which was also adopted by power markets in their forecasts, leading to the conclusion that further gas build-out will be needed.
