Brazil has officially unveiled the country’s future in broadcasting. During the 2025 SET Expo, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree making DTV+, built on ATSC 3.0 technologies, the official television standard for the country. By enshrining an ATSC 3.0-backed standard in law, the news has ignited a fire in the belly of ATSC 3.0 supporters in the US. Days after Brazil’s decree, the FCC issued a Public Notice to accelerate the transition to NextGen TV ahead of the 2028 sunset and 2030 mandate for ATSC 3.0-capable tuners in TVs.
