The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seems to be plucking numbers out of the air at random when it comes to issuing fines to drone pilots deemed to be breaking the rules – an illogical system that could be damaging for the future of the IoT, if it is a precedent for how governments deal with new technologies. Some 24 incidents of the FAA fining drone pilots have recently been obtained by Motherboard under the Freedom of Information Act, although the total figure could be significantly higher.
