Satellite botherer AST SpaceMobile has confirmed a spectrum sharing deal with both AT&T and Verizon, which will share a portion of their 850 MHz spectrum rights with the startup. This should allow AST to provide a more unified service to US customers, without having to battle two distinct bands. The two MNOs have previously endorsed AST SpaceMobile as their satellite provider of choice. The plan is to use satellite-borne base stations to provide ‘cell towers in space,’ which will serve users that are not sufficiently covered by terrestrial base stations.
