Broadcasting over 5G has been a goal of sections of the content community for a decade, and while various technologies in the 4G era failed to deliver a viable business case, broadcast remains an important area of development for the 5G and video industries. How far terrestrial and cellular networks and content distribution will fully converge in future remains up for debate, and will depend on local regulation, industry structure and consumer appetite, but a rising number of initiatives looks to reduce the cost and complexity of 5G broadcasting.
