Green streaming technologies are rolling out thick and fast in the closing stages of 2022. Broadpeak, a founding member of the non-profit industry initiative, Greening of Streaming, last week claimed a breakthrough in video server power consumption. The French multicast adaptive bit-rate (ABR) specialist has released its BkS450 video streaming software that achieves a fourfold reduction in the power required to deliver a 1Gbps video stream. Broadpeak explains that ultra-efficient hardware resources, based on third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, allow the BkS450 to deliver video services at a ridiculous theoretical maximum of 725Gbps in HTTP on servers consuming 900 Watts.
