5G deployment is accelerating across both road and rail networks, as various projects get underway to improve operations, as well as onboard consumer experience. In the case of road networks, 5G rollout has been confounded with Cellular V2X (C-V2X), the cellular version of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) local connectivity via sidelinks, developed to support autonomous driving and safety related functions. Almost independently of C-V2X in many cases, deployment of 5G base stations is being steered to varying degrees by major road networks to provide higher quality mobile access for infotainment and navigation.
