Automotive took center stage at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, as the few big chip makers in the field made a spate of announcements centering on consolidation of on-board components and Generative AI (GenAI) for navigation, infotainment and automation. This heralds a new era, where software-defined vehicles start to come of age, as the in-vehicle chip count begins to come down rather than continuing to proliferate – especially in the case of EVs.
