In the US Earthlink continues to try to build a network that is not dependent on the RBOCs for broadband delivery and now DirecTV and AOL, each have their own reasons for bypassing RBOCs, have agreed to work with Earthlink on bundled services. For AOL the more broadband delivery sources the better to convert its ailing dial up base, but for DirecTV its strategy rapidly seems to be to tie up with every broadband operator going in order to build towards the day when it offers a return path and VoIP as part of a triple play with its satellite TV services.
