The emergence of 5G/WiFi networks as well as fixed wireless access (FWA), as major drivers for 5G take-up in developing countries, has been confirmed by several recent events and announcements. The common thread is that ownership of 5G phones will be relatively low for some time in these countries and therefore 5G will gain traction primarily through being deployed in fixed mode to premises, with access then supported via WiFi. Such premises may be homes, shared public venues such as shopping malls and train stations, or in some cases enterprises.
