Google is acquiring part of HTC’s Vive engineering team, for some $250 million, and will use them to work on the Android XR project. This is the second time that Google has acqui-hired from HTC, having paid around $1.1 billion for 2,000 staffers back in 2017, in a move that paved the way for its Pixel smartphones. HTC is a venerable presence in the VR market. Its Vive headsets have been at the fore for years, in terms of positive reviews and active users, but since launching in 2016, plenty more rivals have entered the fray.
