InterDigital and Qualcomm are the latest to criticize the Europe Union’s patent overhaul legislation. Recently, Ericsson and Nokia united to demand that the bloc rescind its 2023 plans, but there has been little outward sign that these calls have had any impact. The crux of the issue is the EU plan to establish a bloc-wide database of standards essential patents (SEPs), created and managed by the EU IP Office (EUIPO).
