IoT module makers are engaged in consciousness raising for RedCap, at least those that have implemented the technology in their packages. Quectel has just published a white paper preparing the ground for its own IoT modules – just two months after a similar exercise from Fibocom. The latter’s paper is more lyrical about RedCap, but both rather downplay the latest variant extended RedCap (eRedCap) coming with 3GPP Release 18, due for launch in implementable form this month. This is because both firms’ IoT modules support just the standard RedCap defined in the current Release 17, with no indication of when or indeed whether they will come out with eRedCap versions.
