Cellular laptop connectivity has been on the agenda since the 3G era but has never gained much purchase in either the consumer or enterprise spheres, deep in the shadow of WiFi. Now, under 5G, laptop cellular connectivity is making a rebound, initially among some enterprises and top end consumer sectors, given the high initial price tags. Intriguingly though, both laptop makes and their silicon suppliers, since the latter need the longest notice of demand, are eyeing opportunities for private enterprise 5G connectivity from 2023 onwards.
