The LoRaWAN networking protocol continues to gain recruits in the European Union (EU) with its latest deployment just announced by operator Hutchison Drei (Three) in Austria. Drei is now rolling out a nationwide LoRaWAN network, for industrial IoT use cases that require decent range but only low bandwidth, mostly in the smart meeting and environmental monitoring domain with an eye on smart city applications. Indeed, two customers for the low power wide area network (LPWAN) confirmed so far will use LoRaWAN for such purposes.
