Like spring, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) were very much in the air at MWC 2024, and yet more questions were begged than answers. There were two critical developments at MWC 2024 itself, at the infrastructure and device levels respectively. The first was a pact between the GSMA and GSOA, the Global Satellite Operators Association, to stimulate innovation and standards development around integrated TN-NTN services. Then at the device level, Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF system, a sequel to last year’s Snapdragon X75 but its first to incorporate NTN support.
