Interest in quantum cryptography reached a new high at MWC 2024, admittedly as part of a long slow ascent. For its sibling, quantum computing, it has been a slow burn, as research dating back several decades progresses laboriously from theory to practical realization that are still short of commercial exploitation. Yet at MWC 2024 a pop-up conference, entitled post-quantum cryptography, attracted a surprisingly large audience that quickly became standing room only, seeking to dispel myths and draw attention to the real progress being made towards those first proper elusive commercial deployments.
