Autonomous vehicles represent the death of the traditional automotive industry. They are not the single contributing factor, but they will be the deathblow. Increasing urbanization, the rise of ride-sharing, increased remote working, improvements in mass transit systems, environmental regulatory pressures, the decline in oil supply – all of these factors are straws piling up on the camel’s back. But the auto industry can count on regulatory inertia to act as a saving grace, in the short term at least.
