Reliance Jio always does things its own way, and that has included developing several key technologies itself in order to improve performance and drive down cost. The small cells it co-developed with Airspan and its own JioSON self-optimizing networks technology are examples, but now it seems to be working on its own flavor of 5G itself. The operator has applied for permission from regulators to carry out 5G trials based on its own implementation, rather than one from a mainstream vendor, according to local press reports.
