Samsung has unveiled two new products, as part of its smart home strategy. The most promising is the new SmartThings WiFi hub, which uses a mesh networking technology from Plume, popular among CSPs, and also houses Z-Wave and Zigbee. However, the new Bixby-powered speaker, the Galaxy Home, smacks of beating a dead horse, and we don’t see that line ending well for Samsung. The speaker unit itself is an interesting looking thing. The tripodal housing is its most distinctive feature, and in terms of rivals, this is aimed at the full-size Google Home and Amazon Echo units.
