France’s terrestrial television platform, TNT, is in the midst of a complete overhaul. The first major project is the deployment of UHD, which began with France Télévisions broadcasting France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD during the Paris 2024 Olympics using 2160p/50 HDR with Dolby AC-4 audio. So far, no other broadcasters have committed to launching UHD services on DTT, except for M6, which ran 1080p HDR trials during the UEFA Euro 2024. The second key initiative is the proposed “audiovisual bill,” still under debate in Parliament, which includes a mandate for an HD switch-off by 2029 at earliest.
