MVNOs have long been seeking elusive revenues from global IoT roaming as brokers, and are now adding a new string to their bows by including NTNs (non-terrestrial networks) in hybrid services, especially satellite. Most recently, Paris-headquartered MVNO Transatel has combined with burgeoning satellite IoT operator OQ Technology to offer such a converged terrestrial/NTN IoT service. Like many such offerings this is for cellular LPWAN (low power WAN) Cat-NB connectivity, for which there is growing global roaming demand. This serves cross-border IoT applications such as asset tracking that require near ubiquitous geographical coverage, but are undemanding of bitrate or latency and do not require continuous network access.
