Verizon has made very few good calls on video since it first introduced its own FiOS IPTV video service back in the 2005 time-frame. Most moves it has announced since then have been counter-intuitive, wrongheaded and have failed. It has spent $billions acquiring assets, half-built OTT video services, tried AVoD, when everyone else was chasing SVoD, and has built a world class video delivery service, complete with CDN. But right now it has no video to deliver to phones since the closure of its Go90 services and instead is saying that it plans to bundle Apple TV with its 5G fixed wireless service – and in a single step it has screwed up its chances of fixing its video problems.…
