The pattern of Apple’s negotiations over patents is annoying to some, downright unreasonable to others, but it follows a pattern – withhold payments until it gets what it wants and then pay up. The deal signed this week with Nokia followed that pattern, because it fundamentally had little to fear from Nokia – out of the handset business – at least for the most part.
