Is it only us, but was the simple news this week that Time Warner Cable is working with Humax, not the single most depressing news item this week for the set top industry? Most sources reported the news as a replicated press release, to us it’s the beginning of the end of the US native set top industry. Previous set top orders from Time Warner Cable have so far always gone to Motorola (now Arris) and Cisco, and not even the UK’s Pace has made big inroads into TWC set top orders, although Pace currently remains the largest set top maker in the world and is a second source at Comcast.
