Vimeo has traditionally been seen as a smaller and more niche version of YouTube, but with this week’s acquisition of white label subscription platform VHX, Vimeo could be taking a change of direction. The acquisition of Brooklyn-based VHX allows Vimeo to offer its users tools such as video analytics and customer data insights, as well as the technology to quickly launch an SVoD channel that can be streamed in 4K quality to multiple devices. The focus on high-quality video is something that Vimeo is renowned for, as well as its free version which, unusually, is not ad-supported and attracts around 280 million monthly users.
