After the dark web was named and shamed by Irdeto last week for hosting the wildest OTT video password party ever seen, followed by a CNBC report revealing 35% of millennials share passwords, research firm Ampere Analysis thought it necessary to diffuse the situation somewhat – claiming the credentials-sharing trend is overhyped. Unfortunately, Ampere’s claim that password sharing is “not as prolific as many believe” cannot be generalized due to the study focusing solely on the practice of password sharing for Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts – the latter having zero credibility concerning video due to Prime being a bundled service.
