It’s not massively surprising that Sony, even with all of its intellectual property in DRM, has chosen another company, Norwegian specialist Beep Science, to deliver the DRM on its mobile phone music steaming service, StreamMan. Most of Sony’s efforts on copy protection and DRM relate to consumer electronics devices such as TV and DVD players, the PC, or to the actual DVD and CD media itself. It’s never worked on the Open Mobile Alliance cellphone DRM and has had to buy it in for StreamMan. StreamMan offers instant mobile access to music including listening to personalized selections anytime and anywhere.
