In response to the limitations put on its access to US or US-influenced chip technology, including the foundry services of TSMC of Taiwan, Huawei has been investing in dozens of Chinese chip start-ups through its venture arm, Habo Technology Investment. It even aims to build its own chip fabrication facility by the end of this year as it attempts to build itself a resilient supply chain and reduce its reliance on foreign technologies. This is a race against time for the Chinese company, as its own senior executives have indicated.
