Following Faultline’s glamorous coverage of NBCUniversal’s virtual reality exploits during the 2022 Winter Olympics, it would be a disservice not to credit the vendors on the ground (and remotely, mostly) doing much of the heavy lifting for NBC Sports’ ongoing coverage of the Beijing Games. Strangely though, given Comcast’s big marketing push on immersive viewing formats and 8K streaming via the dedicated app, not a single VR technology company has reared a head to take credit. There’s no way NBCUniversal carried off streaming 150 hours of VR in 8K without outside help, but more information may be revealed in due course.
