Brazil’s public/private digital terrestrial TV consortium, the SBTVD Forum, has quashed overenthusiastic assumptions that testing for the third and final phase of SBTVD 3.0 (TV 3.0), the country’s next-generation broadcast standard, could complete in time to trial the technology for the first time at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Specifications for TV 3.0 will not be complete by then, that much is clear, but the Forum informs Faultline that it may be possible for individual members of the SBTVD Forum (such as Brazilian broadcaster Globo) to develop a pre-standard TV 3.0 demo in time for the 2024 summer Olympics.
