After the 148-day-long WGA strike finally came to a close, recently reopened negotiations have collapsed between some 350 Hollywood studios and 160,000 unionized performers. The former, banded together under the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) umbrella, called off discussions with the performers’ union SAG-AFTRA last week, stating the sides were too far apart. Despite A-listers like George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson (among others) meeting with SAG-AFTRA leadership to try and pressure a return to the negotiation table, it is likely discussions may be in limbo for a while.
