Dolby Vision 2 is here, over a decade since the original HDR format arrived in 2014. The evolution promises to go “beyond HDR” with AI-driven environment adaptation and motion processing, but the announcement lacks any meat on the bones to suggest this is anything more than an HDR profile update. Crucially, the new image-enhancing technology launches with a major TV manufacturer already on board (Hisense), as well as a sizable content partner (Canal+). Dolby Vision 2 could easily have been delivered as a profile expansion within Dolby Vision.
