Ten years ago, Netflix co-founded the Alliance for Open Media (AOM) to rattle the status quo of video codecs. Now, the group is celebrating a milestone, as its posterchild AV1 codec is powering approximately 30% of all streams on Netflix. The accomplishment alone is notable, but so is the fact that Netflix has, for the first time, publicly handed over a numerical percentage of streaming at a codec level.
