Lawsuits have a tendency to drag on, and so while we do not expect quick resolutions, two cases filed in the US are setting the tone for this new wave of smart glasses. Two upstarts, Xreal and Viture, are locked in a patent infringement dispute, while another start-up called Solos has taken aim at Meta, essentially alleging that Meta’s Ray-Ban designs have been lifted from a previous collaboration with Solos. The more tangibly impactful case will be the Xreal-Viture showdown, as that already has an injunction in place (blocking sales) and is likely to culminate in a patent licensing agreement.
