Five years ago this week… Sony joined the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Alliance in an, albeit belated, endorsement of the low latency transport protocol. At the time, Sony had just launched two remotely controlled IP cameras supporting SRT, including the SRT-XP1 and SRG-XB25, in a bid to cash-in on live events and the need for remote production in the pandemic-era. The innate need for remote production may have tapered off today, but its application in real-world environments is greater than ever. Sony’s SRT product portfolio lives on, as does the SRT Alliance, now with support for Sony’s Adaptive Rate Control (ARC) technology that mitigates bandwidth by reducing bitrates mid-stream.
