Akamai has souped up its security portfolio with a raft of new features in a rather incoherent announcement that homes in on large scale threats to service providers, notably DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) and web attacks such as SQL injection. As the world’s largest CDN vendor, Akamai is naturally well placed to defend against many of these threats that operate at long range across the internet, as well as to collect data on them.
