Netflix has shifted to IBM storage systems to manage its growing data volumes, opting for an appliance based on IBM’s XIV architecture, itself based on Fiber Channel and iSCS. It is using it to manage databases and back-up operations. According to IBM, Netflix replaced 16 existing storage systems with just three XIV systems and reduced data center footprint by 80%.
