In a flurry of coordinated activity, the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and the American Cable Association (ACA) filed a petition with the FCC to halt its planned Title II reclassification. Another petition was levelled jointly by the CTIA (now officially The Wireless Association) on behalf of mobile ISPs, and by USTelecom (a trade association representing telcos in Washington). Just for good measure, AT&T signed the USTelecom petition, and so did CenturyLink – following its earlier filing on April 17th. While likely to ignore the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth, the FCC will want to avoid being drawn into any such dialog that questions the legitimacy of its authority.
