Modern Times Group has taken one step forward and one step back in pay TV this week, losing out on a long term effort to get a DTH license in Russia through Raduga TV, and yet signing up Tele2 in its largest market Sweden for the OTT Viaplay pay TV service. Tele2 has 3.7 million mobile customers as well as 64,000 fixed broadband lines in Sweden, and will offer both audiences the popular OTT Viaplay Service. The service lags Netflix in the region, but is a strong second placed player.
