Sony shocked the cognoscenti of the portable world this week when it confounded all previous predictions on the pricing of its PlayStation Portable, announcing that it would begin at 19,800 Yen ($187). The device will be launched at that price in Japan on December 12th and it suggests that US prices of $199 and European of €199 are likely. Previous price estimates had ranged anywhere from $300 to $450. The prices quoted don’t include all of the necessary accessories which cost $26.5 for a Memory Stick Duo $33 for an AC adaptor, a battery pack at $45 and headphones also at $26.5.
