Sports broadcasters grope for survival during coronavirus crisis

All video service providers will be severely impacted by the coronavirus shutdown, especially if it is prolonged, but it is particularly acute for sports broadcasters deprived at a stroke of their raw commodity. Those providers relying more on entertainment will suffer from cancellation of current or ongoing productions, but many have enough content in the can to keep viewers engaged for a long period and some will even gain new subscribers as a result of enforced isolation. Those operators more dependent on advertising revenues will naturally be harder hit than those relying just on subscriptions, and that has been reflected in share prices.
