Swisscom has been shifting to a virtualized headend since late 2016 – as much to allay costs as it was to become more flexible and faster in adding to the channels and video assets. If a telco TV system should be measured by its results in the market, then in Europe you would have to look at the systems from either Telefonica or Swisscom, as they are still driving sales aggressively within their respective markets, but possibly the more innovative of the two is Swisscom and this week it put the finishing touches to its headend virtualization, announcing French encoding firm Ateme as the transcoding resource for this NFV based headend.
